Introduction
This guide is the practical companion to the Health Nexus Evidence-Based Cardiovascular Training Roadmap video series. It distills the same material — the same physiology, the same evidence base, the same training plans — into a reference document you can use daily.
It is written for two audiences. The first is the recreational athlete just getting started and looking for a structured way to build cardiovascular fitness without injury or burnout. The second is the experienced athlete who has been training for years and feels that their training has plateaued – and wants a more rigorous framework for thinking about intensity, periodization, and progression.
Both audiences share a common problem. Most recreational training literature is either too vague (“do some easy work and some hard work”) or too prescriptive (“do exactly this 12-week program for marathon improvement”). Neither helps you make decisions when life, your body or your goals change. What you need is the framework — the principles — that let you build and adjust your own plan over time.
