Dr. Lyall J. Ashberg
Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Lyall Ashberg is a board-certified and double fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with over 20 years of experience, specializing in pediatric orthopedic surgery and complex hip disorders. As one of the original hip preservation specialists in Palm Beach County, Florida, he has long recognized that many adult orthopedic problems begin in childhood and evolve silently over time. This early insight reshaped his approach to orthopedic care, leading him to view musculoskeletal health not as isolated events, but as part of a lifelong continuum.
Through his work with both pediatric and adult patients, Dr. Ashberg came to understand that the hip—and indeed the entire musculoskeletal system—does not function in isolation. Optimal joint health depends on the alignment and performance of surrounding structures: the spine, pelvis, core, and lower limbs, all working together with precise biomechanical coordination. Beyond the structural, he observed that broader physiological factors—particularly metabolic function, systemic inflammation, and lifestyle behaviors—play a profound role in recovery, injury risk, and long-term mobility.
These experiences led him to develop the Whole Human Health model: a systems-based, integrated approach to musculoskeletal care that addresses not just symptoms or anatomy, but the full context of a patient’s health. His model emphasizes the interplay between physical structure, metabolic health, and overall well-being—bringing together orthopedic expertise, preventative care, and functional performance science.
At the heart of his practice is the use of advanced tools and assessments, including breath-based metabolic analysis through technologies like PNOE (https://pnoe.com), which evaluate real-time oxygen efficiency, fat and carbohydrate utilization, and cardiovascular performance. These insights enable the development of customized exercise and nutrition plans aligned with each patient’s physiology and health goals. His care plans may also include telehealth-based orthopedic evaluations, functional movement screening, strength optimization, and lifestyle coaching.
Whether treating a child with a growth-related orthopedic issue, an adult with chronic joint pain, or an athlete seeking to prevent injury and enhance performance, Dr. Ashberg’s goal remains the same: to restore function, prevent future dysfunction, and promote long-term vitality. He approaches each case with the belief that true health requires a whole-human view—one that respects the body’s complexity and supports its capacity to heal, adapt, and thrive.
